Sometimes I wanna get you low

We’re very excited to be playing a hometown show with a lovely band called Cracker on September 24th which marks the 1st anniversary of Motorco Music Hall.

It’s a rare early show for us so parents secure your baby sitters!  We’ll be taking the stage around 8 pm and the show kicks off with Almost People at 7.

Here’s our recommended plan: Call some friends, grab some dinner at Geer Street Gardens then a beer at Full Steam followed by some great live music at Motorco Music Hall.  Hopefully Pie Pushers will be around for a late night slice.

That’s a pretty great Saturday evening in our opinion.

Here are the show details:

Summer shows (and some ain’t)

treasurefest3 treasurefest2

treasurefest treasurefest4

Our ears are still ringing from our show at Snug Harbor last Saturday night as part of the fantastic Treasure Fest. Thanks to all the good people that helped organize it and ensure that everything ran smoothly. We had a blast and we also got to see some incredible bands, like Restorations and Worn in Red.

But now we’re 3/4 back in Durham, 1/4 in the mountains, and we’re all getting ready for a Saturday night show at Casbah in downtown Durham with one of our favorites, American Aquarium. Pullman Strike (from Charlotte, and also founding fathers of Treasure Fest) will be joining us to help kick off this Memorial Day weekend in proper fashion–with loud rocknroll. You can buy advance tickets here or get them at the door.

Let’s talk about this album we’re working on. Here’s what we know:

1. it’s awesome
2. it ain’t finished

We’re all really excited about how it’s sounding though and we can’t wait to get it in your ears as soon as possible, THEREFORE…

We will be previewing a track or two on WKNC this Friday afternoon between 5-7 pm on the Local Beat with Adam Kincaid. Make sure you pull your car to the side of the road, tune in to 88.1, and turn that shit up.

Also, make your Halloween plans now, because Red Collar is going back to Gainesville, FL for Fest X. Going to The Fest is a punk rock pilgrimage and this year’s lineup is Fest alum only and the list of bands is unreal. We will pass along other details as we get them, including when/where we will be performing, as well as a possible tour to/from Gainesville that may include some other Fest bands.

That’s it for now. See ya soon,

Festivals ‘R Us

It’s been a little quiet on the Red Collar musical front these days. Jon’s been kicking it with Shaun T and hitting it with the Magnolia Collective. Beth’s on a quest to finish a documentary. Mike’s getting married and Jay’s finishing up a solo record and hitting the road.

That said, I think it’s fair to say we all have Red Collar on the mind. There will be a new record this year produced by Scotty Sandwich that we are very excited about. We’ll be doing some regional touring and are pleased and honored to announce we’ll be heading to Gainseville, FL over Halloween Weekend for FEST 10. In fact, there’s lots of Festivals on our radar these days:

Way Out West Fest: April 19-20: Tuscon, AZ (JKutchma solo)
Treasure Fest: May 21: Charlotte, NC
FEST 10: October 29-30: Gainesville, FL

Our next show is over the Memorial Day weekend with American Aquarium at the CASBAH. We might have duckfat popcorn with us. Who knows?

In the meantime, catch Jay’s solo shows, dates below. He kicks off his WAY OUT WEST tour with a show at the Local 506 in Chapel HIll with Tim Barry and Jenny Owens Young.

We love to hear from you all now and again. You can find us easily on Facebook or just drop us a email.

Three saucy meatballs between two empty cans of PBR and dash of hot sauce (the scotty sandwich delight)

I guess Music Festivals are our new thing because we’d like to announce two new upcoming shows. Next weekend we help Scotty Sandwich celebrate 2 years of Death to False Hope Records by playing his DTFH Fest. The line-up is incredibly ambitious. Featured bands include Less Than Jake, Off With Their Heads, The Supervillians, Restorations, Riot Before, Greenland is Melting, Hammer No More The Fingers, Last Years Men, Lurch and many more. Think of it as a mini-Fest (very few competing shows), a radder Rad Fest (because it’s in Durham), a Way Out West Fest that is a little more East than West (well, because it is more east than west). Anyway, DTFH FEST takes place January 21-22, 2011 mainly at Motorco Music Hall in downtown Durham but also at various other venues in the area as well. Red Collar hits the Motorco stage at Saturday the 22nd at 9:30 directly after Sorry About Dresden. We’ll see you there, right?

In April, we’re heading out to Tuscon for Way Out West Fest but more on that later. In the meantime, check out a few solo recordings by Jay on his Bandcamp site at jkutchma.bandcamp.com. You’ll love them like we do.

Festival dates added

We just added a few shows that we are super excited to play including the PLY:stl Festival in St. Louis, MO in September and The FEST 9 in Gainesville, FL over Halloween weekend.

We are also quite pleased to be a part of a momentous occasion, the release of Rat Jackson’s CD. We’ve been waiting for it for a while and it can’t come too soon. Join us at the Broad Street Cafe in Durham, NC on August 7th for their CD release party.

Rad Fest Announces Line-Up

The first annual Rad Fest is taking place this May 14 and 15th in Wilmington, North Carolina and has attracted many great bands that have booked to play. While Rad Fest may be in it’s first year, the idea of hosting local, regional festivals goes back decades. Promoter Chason had this to say about his motivation for starting this festival.

Rad Fest started as a small idea: to bring some of my favorite bands and people to the modest port town of Wilmington, North Carolina. This city plays host to a quiet creativity and I have every intention to shake it up! Inspired by the amazing times I’ve experienced at The Fest in Gainesville Florida, I set out to give music nerds an opportunity to share in a carefree two-days of camaraderie and party-hardery. To have so many bands that embody the reason I love music right here in my own town is an overwhelming imagery. If you can have a passion for something that enhances life so much and be surrounded by it for two-days straight, that is the ideal recipe for an amazing experience. Add to that the amazing friends old and new that you get to share it with and I can’t imagine a greater thing. This isn’t a brand new idea, but I’m thrilled to bring that idea here, to my friends and to my town. We’re going to have a great fucking time!

Over the two days of the festival, 5 venues will play host to close to 100 bands. With prices at $25 for a 2-day pass.

Pilgrim Limited Edition Vinyl Pre-Sale Is Open, CDs Now In Stores!

We’re extremely excited to make a couple of fairly significant announcements on this nice, fall morning

First of all - at long last, the pre-order for the limited vinyl release of Pilgrim is open now!  Visit our merch store or click on the cover art to pick one up - We have only pressed 500 copies.  All of them will be hand numbered and on nice, red vinyl.  All of the sleeves were screen-printed.  The track order was re-worked to give the album more of a Side A/Side B flow and the first 100 copies will be printed with special metallic silver ink, with assorted colors throughout the remaining quantity.  Don’t worry, all the colors look pretty sharp.  Due to the length of the album we could only fit 9 of the original songs on one record so every copy will also have a download card with every  LP that will have all 11 songs plus a cover of Jawbreaker’s “Jinx Removing” that will only be available with this release.  Thanks to Scotty, Neil, Josh and all of the gentlemen at Loose Charm for helping to make this happen.

For our local friends, we’ll also be taking pre-orders at our Troika Fest show, this Saturday at the Trotter Building (11:30pm set time).

Next - For the first time since its release this past March, Pilgrim is available IN STORES.   We’ve made a partnership with Suburban Home Records for physical  distribution and CDs should be popping up on shelves before you know it.  We cannot thank Virgil and his crew enough for the help and support they’ve shown over the last few months and their dedication in helping band’s who are putting out records on their own figure out how to get their music into indie retail stores around the country.

Finally, we’ve posted a video for “Hands Up”.   It’s a mash-up of video footage taken by Chris Carter at Tir Na Nog in Raleigh, NC on July 4th, paired with a live audio recording from a show in New York City at Pianos on July 14th.   Take a dramamine, strap on your sea legs and enjoy.
