Nobody Does It Better

We played last night at Tir Na Nog with The Loners and Goner ( both for the first time) and had a blast. If you were there, I hope you did too. It was a great convergence of events: Chris from Tir Na Nog’s birthday, a voter registration drive, the Vice-Presidential Debate and, as is every Thursday at Tir Na Nog, WKNC’s Local Band/Local Beer night.

I met the fellas from Goner and we had a tremendously interesting conversation that I would like to invite everyone to participate in: What band(s) have never released an album that disappointed you? Sure, they could’ve released an album that was just average but did it disappoint you? I guess if you expected more than average from them then technically that’s a disappointment.

There’s only one qualification to consider:

1) They had to have released AT LEAST five albums (not including a greatest hits).

But there’s a couple qualifications that are debatable:

1) Do EP’s count? (I say yes but then again I am, ahem, INCREDIBLY biased on this one)

2) Do live albums count? (I say no)

3) Does a Singles compilation count (a la The Smiths)? (I say yes)

4) If a band drastically replaced most of the crucial members of the band and released a disappointing album, does it count (a la The Clash)? (I say yes)

5) If there was a death in the band of a crucial member, do you give them a slide on the “five album rule”? (I say yes but only if it’s an accidental or natural death)

Have fun with this and write your contributions. Don’t be afraid of looking like an asshole with your choices, trust me I risk that every time I step on a stage. There’s no dorky hipster that comes to our page that’s going to make fun of you and if they did, well they can go fuck themselves. Don’t be afraid of countering people’s arguments or giving the kudos for their suggestions. I’m more of a singles kind of guy as opposed to an albums kind of guy so this whole dialog one can be kind of hard for me to answer.

But I do know this: The Beatles win.

One Response to “Nobody Does It Better”

  • Ryan Kristoff Says:

U2 up until Achtung Baby was on a five album winning streak. (take into acount that half of it was fresh material)

And ZZ top until after Eliminator.

Of course both became suck city afterwards, so that’s that I guess.
